Bully Proof Your Kids

The BullyProof® school workshop is a free public service provided by Yama Bushi Karate. The program began six years ago as a community service to help build awareness of bullying and teach children and adults effective ways of dealing with a bully.

Bullying can have a profound impact on a child. Many cases go unreported leaving in its wake a confused and emotionally scarred child. We know because we often see children who have been bullied at our schools.

We offer a one hour program where a trained BullyProof® instructor will attend your school and provide a fun and interactive forum for children and teachers helping them to learn to recognize bullying and effective ways to deal with bullying in a productive manner.

Quite often children who are bullying are able to benefit from this program as well as it helps them to identify what are they are doing and see more positive ways to interact with fellow students.

Typically our sessions include a brief warm up where we group the children into teams and have them do some fitness exercises. Once they are warmed up the instructor will begin to discuss bullying and engage them in an interactive discussion.

During our program we focus on the following areas:

• How to use your voice to control a situation
• The importance of talking to an adult
• Support friends that are being bullied, speak on their behalf
• Controlling your fear, showing confidence
• Avoidance, don't engage, don't respond
• Self defense techniques
  

For fun we like to throw in some punching and kicking of pads with a little yelling. While it seems aggressive, it is really more about stress relief and focus. Plus, the children usually enjoy this part the most!

Ultimately our goal is to help children understand what to do when they get into a situation with a bully so that they have effective ways to resolve the situation before it goes too far.

Teachers are invited and encouraged to participate in the class. It is safe and fun for all ages and levels of fitness. We are looking forward to meeting you and working with your students!
